"Hey there sir francis, I hope to be shared with your knowledge about guitars especially with guitar pedals. For most of my years playing guitar. Its always Distortion and solid state amps, Thats my basic rock sound for rhythm with a little boost for leads. Nowadays i got myself a Vox AC-15 which is a chimey and trebly tube amp with 3 overdrives. First overdrive (TS-7) for low gain Danelectro TOD (medium gain) and a sparkledrive for volume boost. Overdrives used individually is good, however if i stack the ts7 and TOD both on at the same time. My overdrives become muddy and the notes cant ring clearly. However individually its ok, notes are clear even with power chords. Ive been also using a high out pickup which is a dimarzio tone zone. Ive been looking for a alternative rock sound and also that can be good for that hillsong overdrive sound. What do you suggest sir? do i have to change my pickups with a vintage output? sequence of pedals in chain? Its not rocket science but hey we all need ideas to get a good sound out of our gear. :)
Last question sir. When you are in overdrive mode?do you simply roll of the guitar volume to get a clean sound or are just turning the overdrive off to get the clean sound? I hope my questions doesn't bother you to much sir.Thank you so much for your time and wisdom sir. :)" by Anonymous

For clarity, try a medium output pickup, or lower your high output ones away from the strings (all you need is a Philips screwdriver). stacking overdrives is a good idea but if the pickup is too hot, it will get muddy.
Yes, sometimes i roll down the guitar’s volume knob. it really depends on the pedal. i recently bought a Tech21 Liverpool and it cleans up very very well, as in sparkly clean to all-out roar. depends on the song too; sometimes i don’t have the time to roll down the volume knob to get a clean sound so i just turn the pedal on or off
