@francisbrew and I with @deftonesband and Pavan of @splintrcom (on the farthest left, he looks like he’s part of the band tho, heehee)
This was after Francis interviewed them while I took photos.
Abe, Sergio and Frank went up to me and introduced themselves.
I told them my name (like they’d care) but I said it anyway.
While having lunch they were all on the other table talking about random stuff (see @quarklovesyou on twitter for details) and Nicole and I grabbed some untouched cheesecake from our non-existent seatmates.
The band was across the table from ours and when they were done eating, they asked Splintr if they could get a 10-minute break, saying, “Well, since they’re not yet done anyway”, pointing to me and Nicole.
I dropped my spoon on the plate which made a loud noise. We were sitting there for the sake of sitting there and little did we know we were causing the itinerary to be slightly delayed because people thought it was rude to leave other people in the room who were still eating.
TOINK.
HAHAHA. I die.
Photos after I get enough sleep.
I don’t recall why they’re smiling but i hope it was because i actually said something funny…
The interview will be on splintr.com and i’m sure they’ll edit out the embarrassing bits (mine). People think i should be used to these things by now but it’s always a huge struggle to keep one’s composure. i have a job to do; the goal is answers, not autographs. i hope they didn’t notice the occasional twitch on my face… the battle inside between the fanboy and the pro was intense.
A few moments before the cameras rolled, the band was talking amongst themselves and Sergio Vega said something like, “I think hell is a state of being, it’s metaphysical, as opposed to a geographic thing…” I didn’t catch who responded next; i was staring at my questionnaire thinking how potentially shallow the questions might be. then Frank Delgado looked at my shirt and said, “Nice shirt. That’s a 1200. i have three of those.” Abe Cunningham said he had one too and Sergio said he had two. (They’re referring to the Technics 1200 turntable drawn on the shirt, not the shirt itself. i wanted to joke that i could only afford the shirt but i just kept my piehole shut.)
They requested for beers and coffee. i asked Pavan of Splintr if i may please have one too because i was nervous and Sergio grabbed one of the bottles and handed it to me. i think it was Frank’s bottle but he said it’s cool, he wasn’t gonna drink, but i tried to give it back. Chino seemed excited about the beer (“San Miguel!”); he looked at the bottle, “San Mig Light… oh it’s low calorie.” And off we went…
The interview went well… considering how nervous i was. i’ve always been scared of Stephen Carpenter… i mean the dude plays volcanic heavy riffs, and doesn’t have too many pictures of him smiling. it’s like those Chuck Norris jokes… “There is no jaw behind Chuck Norris’s beard… only another fist!” or “Chuck Norris does not read books… he beats them to a pulp to get the information he needs!”
Thanks once again to Quark Henares, Pavan Gidwani, and Jasmin Cabrera of Splintr.com for trusting Niña and me to be part of the experience :) and let’s keep praying for Chi Cheng’s recovery…so that maybe someday the Deftones will rock as a six-piece :)
