A decade ago, when NU still existed, and UNTV (with Ramon Bautista, RA, Angel Rivero, those nutty stars of Tumblr) was just a couple of years away from being leased to religious warriors, my radio show “In The Raw” had a TV counterpart. my co-host then was Annette Ortiz-Diaz, drummer for Fatal Posporos (the band was one of the first of the NU107 Rock Awards ‘Raw’ Awardees). The show, as was the channel, was as good and fun as it should be, and it was great while it lasted. UNTV didn’t last long due to… okay, i won’t go there. Long story.
“In The Raw” continued on radio, Annette moved to the States, Fatal Posporos was put on ice. She kept in touch a bit, formed a new band in the States, switched to bass, visited the country, and even became a guest on ITR again with her then-fiancee Dennis. They got married and, like a true rock’n’roll couple, played Metallica songs on their wedding day. That wedding video led to… well just watch the video :)
i mean really, how many times can anybody claim that they jammed with Metallica?? At the Fillmore!!! with proof!!! :D

Maraming maraming salamat sa Rivermaya for thinking of all the NU107 staff to come up onstage and have a spontaneous jam during ‘Awit Ng Kabataan’ :)
the guitar i used is my Hamer Vector… i’ve never played the same guitar twice in any of the years when i had to play at the RAs so i said, ‘ok, it’s your turn.’
it’s only now that i noticed that the Vector has both NU107 and Rivermaya stickers :D

There are way too many people to thank for all the NU years, and i will post a note soon.
And to all who were there last night, please forgive my rambling speech. too many thoughts, too many emotions.
But we are clear about one thing: GRATITUDE :D
I wasn’t always there during Christmas parties in NU107. i make no apologies for my past absences even if i may have missed out on some great fun times. i had my reasons, which may have had to do with a gig i had to rush off to or an appointment that could not be ignored. This year, there i was, having fun. i didn’t take home a killer prize (i took home a portable CD player one time, and forfeited a rice cooker due to my absence another year) but i got reminded of the most important thing…
This is HOME.
Home is comfort, safety. It’s always there. You tend to take it for granted. You don’t always agree with the things done there, but at the same time you’re willing to defend the people who threaten it. They are family. NU107 has been my professional home since ‘88, and i’ve worked with people that i loved and a few others i disliked, personally and/or professionally (and sometimes both). Some even like (or dislike) me back. Families are like that yeah?
Enough sentimental BS; the above is quite enough. i’m just happy to be part of the family, regardless of how the other family members perceive me, and vice versa :)
